The CHIPS' Coalition brings
together youth, adults and community representatives to learn about issues that affect Essex, Essex Junction and
Westford youth. After becoming informed about needs, resources and options, we mobilize to make change!
Youth lead meetings in collaboration with adults. Typical meetings start with a warm up activity, followed by
a presentation over dinner, followed by Table Talk (discussions), group planning, and "What's the Buzz" - a
time to share announcement of community interest. The Coalition usually meets on the 1st Thursday of each month
from 5:30-7:30 pm. Meetings are held at Essex Teen Center except for the June meeting.

Our Current Work
- Coordinating a 2008 Youth Survey and Assessment. How well are we meeting the
needs of Essex, Essex Junction & Westford youth? Where can we do more?
- Extending
more Teen Center programs to Essex Town and Westford youth, particularly those in middle school grades.
- Preparing for YouthWeek 2008 - a week of healthy activities to celebrate our youths' strength!
- Facilitating the Holland and Giraffe Awards for youth and community leadership,
to be presented at the June coalition meeting.
In past years, the group has worked on bullying, racism and tolerance.
It acted as a springboard for new projects such as a new skatepark for teens, Skate the J!
