About the AOP Program

The Adventure Orientation Program is a unique, adventure-based program, where students are empowered to build friendships, develop leadership skills, gain confidence, and play an active role in their personal high school success. AOP involves various outdoor backpacking and hiking trips in the green mountains of Vermont, designed to ease the transition from middle school to Essex High School.

Junior and senior EHS students and adults serve as trip leaders throughout the program to support incoming students as they develop positive social networks. Students form new friendships and are better prepared for the next chapter in their journey!

Cost and Dates:

Because Essex CHIPS is a non-profit organization that relies heavily on community contributions, registration fees are based on a sliding scale ranging from $100-$500 per participant. All registration proceeds go back into the Adventure Orientation Program to help us provide financial assistance for other participants and purchase materials needed for the program.

The 2020 Adventure Orientation trip has been postponed due to COVID-19. Stay tuned for announcements!
