Essex CHIPS (Community Health Initiatives & Programs for Students)

is a non-profit organization in Essex, Vermont. For over thirty years, CHIPS has worked with community members to deliver substance abuse prevention campaigns and activities that promote healthy living.

The organization provides direct service programs for youth, and facilitates partnerships between organizations that serve youth and their families in Essex Junction, Essex Town, and Westford. Services and opportunities for participation include:

  • The Board of Directors, with equal representation by youth and adult community members from a variety of sectors.

  • The Essex Teen Center, located on the second floor of Lincoln Hall, the Essex Junction municipal building, is open after school for middle school students to drop in.

  • CHIPS collaborates with local organizations to sponsor special events for youth at the Teen Center and other local venues.

  • CHIPS works closely with other organizations to sponsor community outreach programs, including programs targeted to reduce smoking, community discussions about teen drinking, and parent education courses. Some of these programs happen in schools, while others are hosted at the Teen Center or through outreach in the community.

  •  Community members of all ages are invited to community events, such the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Spring-fest, and the Annual Community Forum.
